We provide the best quality photo scanning service

Having scanned more than 4 million images, we know that the best way to scan photos is to scan by hand. Printed photos have dog ears, folds that automatic scanners can't scan those photos properly. They get stuck and even risk being torn. So, at ScanCorner each photo is manually scanned at very high resolution and then our image specialists manually restore the images on PC to give the best quality output.

Photo Scanning FAQ (more>>)

Why should I digitise my old printed photos?

There is a saying “There are few things money can’t buy” and ‘memories’ is one of those few things. We should scan photos to cherish the sweet memories of the past. When was the last time your entire family sat together and went through the old photos that were stacked in the shoeboxes and shoved underneath the bed? Through scanning you can:
  • Preserve all the negatives onto your laptop or home server
  • Create multiple copies of the digitised negatives and share with your near and dear ones
  • Create photo albums and gift those to loved ones on special occasions
  • Get rid of the stacks of photos stored in various corners of the house
  • Label them, organize them, put notes on them.

What type of scanner do you use?

We use EPSON Perfection V700 and V750 for scanning the photos, slides and negatives. Epson Perfection series is rated the best in terms of quality and reliability. ×

Why is it better to scan negatives instead of printed photos?

Printed photo is a processed version of negative. When converting a negative into printed photo, there is always a certain information loss. So, printed photo always have lesser information than a negative. Furthermore, negatives are usually in better condition when compared to photos. So, it is always better to scan negatives over printed photos. ×

Do you also offer photo restoration?

Yes, we do scan and restore each photo. When you scan a photo at a very high resolution, you can find lots of dust and scratches on the photo. Even after employing Digital ICE, there are still some dust and scratches left on the photo. We use Adobe Photoshop Elements to restore the photos. We remove the scratches, perform colour correction, do brightness and shadow adjustment on the photos. Our experts spend at least 3 minutes to restore each and every photo. ×

Which DPI do you choose for photo scanning?

Higher the DPI one chooses, higher the quality. But scanning at higher DPI takes lot of time. There are various companies offering scanning services at lower dpi and thereby at lower prices. But the scan quality will not be very good and you may have to get those scanned again later. We, at ScanCorner, scan at the most optimal DPI. Each film format has a certain DPI level below which, the quality won’t be good and above which the marginal improvement in quality is very less but the file sizes will be higher. For 6x4 size photos (most common format), 600 DPI is the most optimal DPI. So, we scan the printed photos and 600 DPI. ×

Why are my scanned images so large?

The more information that you capture in a scan, the larger the file size will be. Information is defined as clarity, sharpness, color depth etc. A high resolution scan at 600dpi would give you a file of 5-7MB in jpeg and 30MB in TIFF format. Therefore, we do not recommend TIFF for the average customer. At the lower jpeg file size, you will be able to share images online and take up less space on your computer hard drive. ×

Do you also offer A3 print scanning?

We do offer A3 print scanning. Epson photo scanners we use can scan only upto A4. So, for A3 size we do two separate scans and stitch these two scans using Adobe Photoshop Elements. ×

Why shouldn’t I opt for TIFF scanning for printed photos?

TIFF scan, also called lossless scan is always better than JPEG scan. But the file size of TIFF scan is so high and this makes it very difficult to store and move the TIFF files. For example, a high resolution scan at 600 DPI would give a 5-7 MB jpeg file and 30 MB in TIFF format. Therefore, we don’t recommend TIFF format scan for an average customer. ×

How to pack prints to ship to ScanCorner?

There are multiple ways to safely pack prints to ship to us. The easiest solution is to pack all printed photos into one or several plastic bags, put them into a sturdy carton box and ship to us. Sorting and segregating the prints can consume lot of time. So, we suggest you to ship those printed photos to us and after scanning, sort the digital files into various folders.
